The Surfactants and Polymer at the Interface of Engineering and Science (SPIES) research group works on a variety of topics including the synthesis of new amphipathic and stimuli-responsive polymers, the fundamental behavior of existing and newly synthesized surfactants, surfactant mixtures, water-soluble polymers, stimuli-responsive polymers, and surfactant/polymer mixtures, commercial uses of these systems in areas such as composite materials, enhanced oil recovery, and pharmaceutical/medical applications such as gene delivery, the use of atomic force microscopy to examine our various systems, and the use of these novel materials in chemical separations.
